It has always been part of the Perpetualites’ mission to serve and to make a difference in the society. Thus, the spirit of voluntarism is clearly manifested ¡n the DALTA Group of Companies Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Part of the companies’ CSR is joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Command as an official unit.
On April 12, 2011. The University of Perpetual Help System was activated as the 1st AFP Affiliated Reserve Medical Center of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Command based from the approval of the Commander-in-Chief, President Benigno Simeon Aquino Jr., upon recommendations of the Chief of Staff, General Ricardo David Jr. and Secretary Voltaire Gazmin of the Department of National Defense.
No less than Major General Jovencio Magalso. Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retirees Affairs, presided the activation ceremony. With this upgrade as the 1stAFPARMC, the company is expanding its mandated mission to the other major command of theAFP. On the same year, Col.Antonio L. Tamayo was promoted as Brigadier General in pursuant of General Order No. 1123.
This signifies the Perpetualites’ duty and commitment to the state and countrymen, that in the institutions’ humble way, the UPHS can share their services, manpower, equipment and facilities to help the Armed Forces of the Philippines with its mission to defend and serve the country. We will assist in the socio-economic development of our country and safeguard our national security and interests, said Bgen Antonio L Tamayo, 1stAFPARMC Commander.
Currently, the 1st AFP AMC has 834 reservists but they are targeting to have 800 reservists in 2012. Military Orientation Trainings (MOT) will be conducted in the various UPHS campuses.
The 1st AFPARMC will undertake peacetime non-combat mission; search and rescue operations; medical, dental and ophthalmology activities; and other civil-military operations. With everybody’s cooperation, the 1st AFPARMC will be able to put up a strong civil defense to counter the imminent threat to the countr posed by calamities and catastrophes such as typhoons, earthquakes. flashfloods or maybe tsunamis.
“This activation of the UPHS to the 1st AFPARMC represents a concrete step towards nation building. It’s a real change that will directly enhance the quality of life for all of us, as well as our fellow countrymen, BGen Antonio Tamayo stated. It also represents the commitment to, and recognition that we respect and admire the dedication of our fellow servicemen and women,” BGen Tamayo added.
